In the past, thermal foggers were the first choice in adulticiding.  These units heat insecticides to dispense a thick fog over a large sized area.  This thick fog as well as the variable sized particles that they produce has caused many thermal foggers to be replaced by ULV machines.  Thermal foggers are still used for smaller areas such as mobile home parks and campgrounds.
