Gatherings for evening festivals, games and other outdoor meetings may attract mosquitoes from outside the treatment area and may necessitate short-term control. The use of repellents to protect areas where human activities occur is not a new concept in mosquito control. It is, however, one of the most often overlooked methods of protection. Part of the reason for this is the misconception that this particular method doesn’t work. Studies have proven that mosquitoes are attracted to body odors and emissions such as perspiration and carbon dioxide. A good repellent works by emitting a scent that is offensive to mosquitoes. This scent will create a protective curtain around the treated area and cause mosquitoes to leave the area.

Another repellent is Mosquito Beater. Available for years, this granular product is also easy to apply. Its’ effects may last two or three days but are diminished with rainfall and wind currents. Even the slightest rainfall will deactivate this product. It can cause skin irritations and has a mothball odor. This product is available in a 35-pound drum.
