Public Education
Today, more than ever, a successful mosquito control program must include public education along with positive public relations. Partnering with the public will allow you to help each other. For example, if the community knows that you have a mosquito control program, they may call when they notice mosquitoes are rampant. This is a good thing! If several people call from the same area you will know where to target your control efforts. A complaint log can help you keep track of this information.
Educating the public on areas in their yard that may produce mosquitoes can also impact the effectiveness of your program. In fact, many mosquito problems start at home! There are many agencies including the Centers for Disease Control and State Health Departments that have public education materials on their web sites.
